Forest Gate Police Station blaze: Whole roof alight

Road closures remain in place and fire crews will "likely be carrying out operations into the night", London Fire Brigade said.

Crews were first called to the fire at just after 4.15pm this afternoon (March 6).

There are now 30 fire engines and 175 firefighters at the scene, with thick, black smoke being seen billowing from the building in Romford Road.

Four of LFB's turntable ladders are being used as part of the efforts to put out the blaze.

London Fire Brigade are currently dealing with a fire at Forest Gate Police Station on the third floor of the building.

An LFB spokesperson said: "The fire is producing large amounts of smoke and people in the local area are advised to keep their windows and doors closed."

Newham MPS posted on X, formerly Twitter, to say they were not aware of anyone being injured.

Newham Council said it is aware of the fire and are working with the emergency services to monitor the situation and support residents.

It urged people to avoid the Romford Road area due to road closures.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
