A popular Indian restaurant has joined forces with a MasterChef finalist to create a one-off new menu celebrating the Hindu festival of colours this month.

Babur, a popular and multi-award winning restaurant based in Honor Oak, has collaborated with BBC MasterChef 2023 finalist Anurag Aggarwal to create a one-off dining experience in celebration of the event of Holi season.

Holi, a two-day event celebrated between March 24 and 25, is otherwise known as the “festival of colours” and is celebrated in India, marking the love between Radha and Lord Krishna.

On Monday, March 25, Chef Anurag join Babur’s Executive Chef Jiwan and his kitchen team are set to prepare a five-course tasting menu inspired by the event, that will tell a story with an immersive experience, colours and storytelling.

Each dish will be prepared representing a different colour, using an array of ingredients and spices to celebrate this Hindu festival of colours, and has been named “Rang” Hindu for the word "colours".

The menu will also be combined with wine pairings for each course, along with live performances from Bollywood dancers and a welcome drink on arrival.

The opening dish, Faldhari Chaat will use an array of ingredients such as caramelised seasonal fruits, pomegranate and tamarind chutney served in a flaky pastry, to evoke the sense of a rainbow.

This will be followed by a dish of Tiger Prawns cooked on blue corn thepla flat bread with coconut chutney, and spiced peanuts, garnished with tempered garlic, curry leaves and mustard seed oil, to evoke the colours of white and blue.

Vegetarians can opt for a Rasam spiced cauliflower option instead.

The next course, a brown-inspired dish of Methi Chicken served with lentil puffed bread, mango chutney and pickled chillies, will follow or Methi Paneer as the vegetarian option.

The fourth and final savoury course, focusing on the colour green, will be a Lamb Gunjia served with fig and apricot, wrapped in moon-shaped filo pastry, crushed mint peas and drizzled with turmeric yoghurt and dill, with a Jackfruit option available for vegetarians.

The menu will be finished with a final sweet dish, a red-inspired Thandai Kulfi dish, a sweet and nutty milk-based ice cream with boondi crumble, paan leaf gel and dried rose petals.

Tickets for this one-off event with live performances can be booked online for £70 a person and tables can be reserved for £10 a person.

The limited edition Rang Holi Tasting Menu will also be available from March 25 until March 31 for £49.95 per person.
