Police have uncovered a huge haul of Nitrous Oxide canisters in Welling worth an estimated £20,000.

MPS Welling were monitoring a suspect who was allegedly selling the canisters and stepped in “once it had been confirmed that a crime was taking place”, according to officers.

Officers arrested a man on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class C drugs.

The canisters were seized, and it is believed that the haul is worth around £20,000.

Officers say that the investigation is ongoing.

Nitrous Oxide, sometimes known as NOS or “laughing gas” is a colourless gas sold in canisters which is usually inhaled using a balloon.

While you can legally buy NOS for things such as whipping cream, it is also taken as a drug.

Too much Nitrous Oxide can make you faint, lose consciousness, or suffocate.

Possession of “laughing gas'” if it is, or is likely to be, wrongfully inhaled is now illegal with repeat serious users facing up to two years in prison and dealers up to 14 years.

The ban, promised as part of the government's Anti-Social Behaviour Action Plan, makes nitrous oxide a Class C drug controlled under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.
