The temporary location for Shenstone School pupils during building work for an expansion project has been announced.

Parents and carers have been informed that students will be accommodated within the Jubilee Primary School site, in Crowden Way, for the 2024/2025 academic year.

Each school will have separate designated areas on the shared site.

The relocation follows the recent appointment last month of Apex Ltd as the contractor for the Shenstone expansion project on Halt Robin Road.

This arrangement will mean that Shenstone secondary students have the ground floor to themselves, providing adequate classroom and outdoor spaces.

Councillor Caroline Newton, the Cabinet Member for Education at Bexley Council, said: "I would like to thank parents and carers for their patience and understanding while we have been working to find the best possible solution for Shenstone students.

"This temporary arrangement will provide the stability they need while the expansion work takes place.

"I would also like to thank Jubilee School and the Trinitas Academy Trust for agreeing to these temporary arrangements as the build for Shenstone Secondary School’s permanent accommodation progresses."

Together with Shenstone School and TKAT (The Kemnal Academies Trust), the council looked at a range of options before choosing the temporary location, which was deemed the most suitable for all Shenstone students.

Bexley Council hopes to complete the permanent site on Halt Robin Road by September 2025 and the temporary arrangements will be in effect until then.

The Shenstone school expansion aims to cater to children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities, transforming it into an ‘all through’ school for pupils aged between 3 and 19.

Apex Ltd, TKAT and the council have already held talks about the plans and promised to keep parents and carers informed throughout the process.
