Women entrepreneurs have been giving away reusable bags made from recycled plastic bottles as a promotion to steer shoppers away from single-use plastics.

They run a sustainable business in Holloway and handed out their recycled bags at Covent Garden on a ‘random act of kindness’ day to help save the planet.

‘Kind Bag’ business founder Maria Rodriguez is on a mission to encourage people to ditch their single-use plastics.

“We encourage people to stop reaching for a plastic bag every time they go shopping,” Maria says. “Sustainable bags is our small way of helping to reduce the ever-growing plastic mountain.”

Each medium-size ‘Kind Bag’  they make recycles six plastic bottles that would have been destined for landfill — or worse, ending up in the Thames and floating out into the world’s oceans.

The reusable, water-resistant foldable product is crafted from plastic bottles made into a durable fabric with prints using non-toxic vegan dyes and are washable at 30C.

Maria is also venturing into recycled backpacks, pouches and laptop sleeves made from bottles she says would probably have ended up in the sea.
