In anticipation of the biographical film about reggae sensation Bob Marley’s life, Pop Brixton held an event to generate the popularity of ‘Bob Marley: One Love’. The event spanned over the course of the weekend and featured a multitude of events – fun and exciting for the whole family. On the Saturday live music, spoken word poetry and guest speakers were only a fraction of entertainment that was provided over the night. Stalls were set up offering selling street food from across the world – Caribbean cuisine, Japanese food, Jollof rice were just a few to name from this. The wide range of food set up the event as a multicultural, diverse experience representing the attitude and profile of the melting pot of London. The event was attended by the one and only star of the film, Kingsley Ben Adir, alongside the director. He was accompanied by a plethora of media coverage crews – adding to the specialty of the evening. Audiences were able to watch the star in an interview with the host of the event.

Having the event in the diverse location of Brixton with its rich history, with many being aware of the tragedies that were the Brixton Riots, holding an event to celebrate the life of Bob Marley seems fitting – with him being an icon for Black excellence globally. The film is set to come out on Valentine’s day of this year and is predicted to be a huge success, featuring many of Bob Marley’s children in the film.

In essence, the event hosted by Pop Brixton was a brilliant evening and truly helped to build up excitement and buzz surrounding the upcoming film.
