Gilgamesh is one of Covent Garden’s newest hotspots – and it calls itself a sensory feast, blending history and modernity with Japanese, Chinese and south east Asian flavours.

The interior is unique and is made of gold, bronze and rich woods that depict the tales of Gilgamesh.

There are three floors with feature bars, lounging areas, greenery and patterned furniture that makes you feel like you’ve been transported to a world much more exciting than ours.

The original Gilgamesh started in Camden in 2007, and this is a more intimate setting with a warm ambiance.

I went for dinner on a Thursday evening with my boyfriend, and we were seated downstairs in the busy lounge and dining area with a stunning bar which made you want to drink and drink.

The upstairs was closed and the ground floor was empty as all tables had been directed to the ground floor, which created a really great and busy atmosphere for diners and drinkers – I imagine when it isn’t January and on a weekend, all three floors would be brimming with buzz, diners, drinkers and atmos.

We met after work for a date night and it really is the ultimate date spot, but I liked that it also is the perfect place to go with friends as well – a one size fits all really.

I went for the Assyria cocktail, which was a sweet mix of vodka, Midori liqueur, passionfruit, lemon and raspberry.

I absolutely love a sweet cocktail so this one went down a treat, and there were plenty I could have chosen from on the extensive bar menu.

My boyfriend went for some red wine and we paired our drinks with some sharing plates to start.

One half of me absolutely loves a menu where I want to order everything on it, and the other half of me hates it because it’s so hard to choose – and this happened at Gilgamesh.

We went for some vegetable spring rolls, a Japanese pizza with truffle tuna, a salmon tartar with shiso ponzu and my boyfriend got the beef tataki.

I actually don’t think I can choose a favourite because it was all deliciously tasty, with perfect portion sizes and fresh food.

We also got the salmon avocado sushi roll which I couldn’t get enough of – it’s my favourite type of sushi and some places just know how to make it right.

For mains my boyfriend got the lamp chops with wasabi seasoning and I got the miso Chilean seabass.

My seabass was an absolute winner and it’s definitely been added to my list of favourite dishes.

I’ve had miso cod before but miso seabass was even better in my opinion – it was succulent, flavourful, moist and I paired it with some sticky rice.

You’d think we’d have had enough but the chocolate fudge cake dessert was far too difficult to resist, and I’m happy we didn’t because it was something I’ll need to go back for again and again.
