5.Basingstoke Canal

The Basingstoke Canal runs for over 30 miles through the Surrey and Hampshire countryside, as well as passing through or near several large towns, including Odiham, Fleet, Aldershot and Woking. The canal is a great place to walk your dog as the route is incredibly safe due to the lack of cars nearby. The paths are flat and easily accessible throughout most of the year and are mainly made of gravel, meaning paws hopefully won’t be too muddy.

4.Newlands Corner

Newlands Corner is a popular beauty spot close to the villages of Albury and Shere, 4 miles outside of Guildford. The site is located in the Surrey Hills and boasts stunning views across the surrounding landscape. Dogs are free to run around in the 250 acres of greenery, and a trip to the on-site café afterwards is highly recommended. Parking is now free to visitors and there are many self-guiding walking routes, as well as an easy access trail beginning at the car park.

3.Box Hill

Box Hill is, as its name suggests, a hill that forms part of the North Downs. Box Hill is visited by an estimated 850,000 people every year and is popular with dog walkers thanks to its wide variety of walking routes. Climbing the hill itself can be quite challenging, however, the views at the top are well worth the effort. The site is a mile away from Dorking and is managed by the National Trust, so parking is free for members.

2.Whitmoor Common

Whitmoor Common is a large area of woodland and heathland in Worplesdon, just outside Guildford. The common also has ponds and streams near to the trails so is the perfect place for dogs to explore. There is free parking around the outside of much of the site and a popular pub nearby for post-walkies refreshments.
