A developer has started work on the latest part of a 10,000-home Barking regeneration scheme.

The Westbrooke Village site is underway, Bellway London said, which is set to bring 167 new homes to Crossness Road.

The progress is part of the wider Barking Riverside regeneration scheme on the site of the former Barking Power Station, a major project that aims to provide more than 10,000 homes to the area.

The Westbrooke Village homes will be made up of 124 apartments and 43 houses and are set to be released onto the market early next year.

Dominic Griffiths, head of sales for Bellway London at Barking Riverside, said: “Westbrooke Village represents our latest phase of construction within the hugely ambitious project which is transforming the former Barking Power Station site into thousands of much-needed new homes in east London.

“Bellway has been involved in the regeneration project since it began and remains firmly committed to its future.

“Bellway London is playing a significant role in the creation of this brand-new neighbourhood.”

Eastbrooke Village is a neighbouring site with one, two and three-bedroom apartments in Sackett Road, which has already started welcoming residents.

More than 370 homes have been completed at Fielders Quarter in the first two phases of construction and phases three and four are expected to bring another 400 homes.

One couple, Ali and Zeynep Kuz, are newly-weds who returned from their honeymoon and moved straight into their new apartment at the Fielders Quarter site.

Ali said: “It’s a developing area. All the buildings are new and the people living here include families and we like that.

“The apartment is on the top floor, so we can see the River Thames and the sunset is visible from our terrace.”

The entire Barking Riverside regeneration will also bring with it new schools, riverside walks, cycle space and commercial and leisure areas.
