Whether you’re watching a movie with family, close friends, or simply just by yourself, here are 3 iconic and beloved festive films to enjoy this holiday season.

1. Love Actually (2003)

This star-studded romantic comedy fuses together the love stories of 8 different couples in London, as they each navigate the complexities of love and its different forms during the chaotic Christmas season. Love Actually features hilarious performances alongside tender moments, and will serve as a reminder of the importance of spreading love, joy and gratitude this christmas.

2. A Christmas Carol (2009)

There are many adaptations of Charles Dickens' highly-acclaimed 1843 novel, but none quite as action-packed as the 2009 version. Created by Disney Pictures, this electrifying retelling of the iconic story of miser Ebenezer Scrooge features stunning visual animation, and a hilarious leading performance from comedic actor Jim Carrey. The powerful message of Dickens’ classic novel is brought to life through this dazzling motion picture, and adored by children and adults alike.

3. Nightmare before Christmas

‘Christmas Film or Halloween film?’ is the question debated when it comes to Henry Selick’s stop-motion masterpiece. However regardless of what holiday season you may choose to watch the 1993 fantasy flick in, its haunting musical score and amusingly freakish characters are bound to both entertain and frighten viewers. This dark yet whimsical story follows protagonist Jack Skellington, King of Halloween Town,as he discovers Christmas town and plots to overtake the holiday, ensuing chaos for both celebrations.

Whilst 3 movies alone may seem like a rather scanty selection - compared to the plethora of Christmas films that streaming platforms spoil you with - bear in mind it’s only November still!  And if you’re in school right now, there’s a high possibility you have studies and work you must dedicate your time to, which I understand as a sixth form student myself. However, as a christmas fanatic also,  I hope my suggestions gave you some festive inspiration, and these simple yet entertaining films are a great step towards channelling your christmas spirit, which will be much needed for the frenzied month of December.
