An industrial yard fire that took more than an hour to extinguish saw thick smoke fill the air in Rainham.

Four fire engines and 25 firefighters were called to Willoughby Drive at 10.48am on Friday (June 9).

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said that around five tonnes of mixed waste were alight and that a small lorry and two outbuildings were destroyed in the blaze.

The fire was highly visible in the area, producing thick clouds of smoke, and prompting 28 emergency calls to 999 control officers.

A LFB spokesperson said that there were no reports of any injuries and that the cause of the fire is now under investigation.

The Brigade was called at 10.48am and the fire was brought under control by 11.56am.
