The National Theatre’s sell out production of The Ocean at the End of the Lane will return to London for a West End run.

The first major stage adaption of Neil Gailman’s best-selling novel of the same name, the show will play at the Noël Coward Theatre from October 11 until November 25.

Adapted by Joel Horwood and directed by Katy Rudd, the play is an adventure of fantasy, myth and friendship, blending magic and memory and powerful storytelling.

True to the National Book Awards Book of the Year in 2013, the show tells the tale of a man returning to Sussex for a funeral and finds himself journeying through his childhood and into the darkness that shadowed it.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane production made its world premiere at the National Theatre in 2019, and its West End debut at the Duke of York’s Theatre in 2021.

Writer Neil Gaiman said, "I am thrilled, overjoyed and absolutely delighted that this glorious adaptation of my book is going to be returning to the West End on St Martin's Lane.

“It makes audiences laugh and cry and wonder. If you wanted to see it, now is your chance."

The 17-strong ensemble cast included Charlies Brooks as Ursula, Daniel Cornish as alternative Boy and Trevor Fox as Dad.

The award-winning creative team includes Samuel Wyer as costume and puppet designer, Jamie Harrison as magic and illusions director and designer, and Fin Caldwell as puppetry director.
