ITV2's latest series of Love Island has begun for its summer series and introduced a south east London bombshell right at the end of the first episode.

Zachariah Noble, who is a 25-year-old personal trainer and basketball player, was a late addition to the villa to begin the twists and turns of the series.

At the start, the 10 initially announced contestants were coupled up by the public, but host Maya Jama returned at the end of the episode to ask the girls to step forward if they weren't happy with their partner.

Admitting they didn't feel a connection in their current partnerships, Ruchee Gurung and Jess Harding came forward.

Zachariah will now have the choice of one of those two to couple up with, leaving one of the boys vulnerable.

But who is Zachariah and how did he come to be on Love Island?

Who is Zachariah Noble on Love Island?

Zachariah is based in Lewisham and is a shooting guard who most recently played for Worcester Wolves in British basketball, the Radio Times reports.

He had wanted to try something different so signed up for the ITV2 dating show, saying: "I always say, ‘You only grow as a person when you take yourself out of your comfort zone’ and I think it’s something that’s so far out of my comfort zone, I’d be silly not to give it a go.

"Being 25, I’m at a crossroads where I’ve been having fun, but I also want to have the peace and harmony that comes from being with the right woman."

In terms of what he was looking for in a partner he hoped he would find someone "genuine" and who was able to have a laugh.

On being asked why he was single he said: "I’m not going to be young forever and it would be nice to meet someone and get some good holiday pictures whilst I’m still looking half decent!"
