A man has died in hospital after being rescued from a late-night flat fire in Streatham.

The blaze damaged half of a ground-floor flat in a converted two-storey house on Buckleigh Road on April 21.

Firefighters were able to rescue a man from the ground floor and he was taken to hospital alongside another person.

The man who was rescued later died in hospital.

Five people were able to leave the building before the Brigade arrived.

The Brigade was called at first called 12.10am.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Norbury, West Norwood and Tooting fire stations brought the fire under control by 1.02am.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Sadly, a man has died following a flat fire on Buckleigh Road in Streatham.

“Half of a ground-floor flat in a converted, two-storey house was damaged by the fire.

“Firefighters rescued a man from the ground floor.

“He was taken to hospital alongside another person, where he sadly later died.

“A further five people left the building before the Brigade arrived.

“The Brigade was called at 12.10am and the fire was under control at 1.02am.

“Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Norbury, West Norwood and Tooting fire stations were in attendance.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
