World Book Day 2023 is taking place on Thursday the 2nd of March, and it seems as though it's going to be better than ever! The day aims to encourage reading and creativity in children through activities in the week or World Book Day Tokens.

National Tokens sponsor the Charity World Book Day allowing for the yearly £1 tokens that let you pick from a selection of books. This year there is a huge variety. For example, some books on offer include The Boy with Wings by Lenny Henry and Spider-Man: The Amazing Pocket Guide.

Don’t worry though, the fun and excitement doesn’t end on Thursday as the charity has organised a number of events that can be accessed through their website including Everyday Routine: Early Years on 27/03/23 and a BBC Teach Live Lesson – World Book Day 2023 on 02/03/23 at 11 am.

So why is World Book Day so important? The event encourages reading which is crucial for school and work life as it improves literacy skills. Additionally, it allows children to be creative and have the opportunity to see life from a different perspective, improving empathy. It is also a brilliant way to inspire future journalists or authors, whilst providing advice for those interested in different sectors such as medicine.

If you would like to further support the charity you can join the ‘Game On’ fundraiser where you “Stream for 5 hours for the 1 in 5 children who said that the book they ‘bought’ with their World Book Day book token had been their first book of their own,” according to the World Book Day website.

By fundraising, you can support the estimated 500,000 (1 in 15) children in the UK who don’t own any books and the 1 in 10 children who receive free school meals.

Whether your school are allowing you to dress up, or you will just be spending your token - I hope you enjoy World Book Day!
