Celia Dawson, Headteacher at Cricket Green School was recognised for “outstanding and exemplary lifetime services to Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs’’. ​

The successful schools cooperative Mitcham Town Community Trust, which consists of 9 primary schools, 2 special schools, and 1 secondary school, was founded by Mrs Dawson. She has been the Headteacher of Cricket Green School for 22 years and has dedicated much of her time to ensuring her students are comfortable and excited to come to school.

 

Along with her academic work, Mrs Dawson started the Project Search internship programme for young adults over 18 who have academic difficulties. The St. George's Hospital-based programme has a proven history of assisting young people in developing their skills and obtaining work.

 

In 2010, 2013 and 2017, Cricket Green School (commonly known as CGS) was rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted under the leadership of Mrs Dawson.

 

During the enforced lockdown due to COVID-19, Mrs Dawson was present in the school regardless, eager to assist the most vulnerable students and their families during a difficult time, a true testimony to her character.

 

As a Trust Chair, Mrs Dawson has been visionary in leading projects and supporting all member schools in raising standards in teaching and learning and improving life chances for all. Mrs Dawson also said ’’this award is shared with everyone with me on the journey’’ and is renowned among her colleagues and friends for being a compassionate leader with an optimistic outlook on life. When questioned about her profession, she describes it as  ‘’the best job in the world’’.
