It has been 13 years since the first movie came out, but finally the sequel to Avatar has been released and lets us back into the enthralling world of Pandora.

Often what is said about the first Avatar film was the amazing visual effects for its time, often being on par with films of today, and Avatar the Way of Water did not disappoint in its visuals either. The groundbreaking technology used to film the sequel involved the use of underwater motion capture and required actors to hold their breaths for long periods of time. The effect is purely stunning; the vibrant world of Pandora coming to life through the ultra realistic quality and the use of 3D, something many films are not able to use effectively.

Avatar the Way of Water tells the story of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his wife Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) along with their four children, who have to flee from the resurrected General Quaritch (Stephen Lang) to the new ocean based Metkayina clan of Na'vi, led by Tonowari (Cliff Curtis) and Ronal (Kate Winslet). However, their four kids, Neteyam, Lo'ak, Kiri and Tuktirey struggle to adapt to the Metkayina way of life and assimilate with the other children. When Lo'ak (Britain Dalton) befriends a Tulkun, (a massive sea whale), the Sully family and the Metkayina clan must come together to fight the Sky people in their hunting of the Tulkun, ending the film in a dramatic and emotional showdown.

Despite the film's long runtime, over three hours, the visuals and immersive world created helps to captivate the audience. Overall, the film warns against the destruction of our planet through climate change and has anti-imperial themes through the use of the sky-people (humans).

After just over a month of being out in cinemas, it is the 4th highest grossing movie of all time, meaning that James Cameron directed 3 of the 4 highest earning movies in the world from The Titanic and the original Avatar coming in at 3rd and 1st.

Overall, this film is a cinematic masterpiece which through the use of new technology leaves the audience wanting more from the world of Pandora. I would rate this movie 5/5 stars.
