Two patients that received life-saving treatment at King's College Hospital will be heading an 18-mile fundraising hike ending in Bromley this September.

The Great Hospital Hike will and will be headed by patients Oliva Wills, 23, and George Baker, six, who both received life-saving treatment at King's College Hospital.

In 2019, Olivia Wills was rushed to Kings College Hospital after becoming “seriously ill” with liver failure.

She was kept in a coma for nine days whilst receiving life-saving treatment.

When speaking about her time in hospital, Olivia said that she received a great deal of care from her nurses during her treatment.

Olivia said: “As well as brushing my hair every day and making sure I looked nice, the nurses would chat to my parents about who I was as a person.

“I was never just a patient I was always a person with real interests.

“They always used to talk to me even when I couldn’t respond, and that kindness is something I’ll never forget”.

George Baker was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at the age of two, and after his parents explored many options, he was then sent to Kings for a life-saving liver transplant.

George’s damaged liver was removed and replaced with his mum’s - who said that this treatment gave the family “hope for the future”

George’s mum said: “George was given a new liver that day, but we were given so much more than we could have ever imagined”.

The 18-mile trail runs between King's College Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital in Bromley.

Registration to walk the Great Hospital Hike on September 16, 2023 is open now for either the Great Hospital Hike as well as the shorter: Little Hospital Hike.
