After an astonishing month of international football, the FIFA 2022 World cup comes to an end. Both Lionel Messi and Argentina make history as they bring the cup back in 2022.

Messi has made history this year as he can end his career having won a world cup. The match was played at the Lusail stadium on the 18th of December. It had been decades since Argentina had won a world cup title yet Messi's triumph throughout the entirety of the world cup did not extend that time period. The opposition France were defending the cup that they had won in the previous 2018 world cup.

The match started in favour of Argentina as Messi and Di Maria both scored in the first 36 minutes of the match. The Argentinian side held great composure until a late equalizer from France's Kylian Mbappe brought them back in contention for the title. In the 80th and 81st minute, the striker scored two goals in quick succession. The score remained at 2-2 until the end of the 90th minute which led to the battle of the title to continue to extra time.

During extra time, Mbappe scored his third girl and completed his hat-trick. Meanwhile, Messi had other plans and did the same prior to the Frenchmen's goal and gave Argentina their third goal of the final match. The 88,966 fans were left to see the match end on a 3-3 tie as the final wnet to penalties. Mbappe became the second player to score a hat-trick in a world cup final ever, however his efforts were not enough for the might of the Argentinian penalties. The final score was 4-2 which was all Argentina needed to claim their third football world cup since 1986.

As the Argentinian side take victory, Lionel Messi can take his own personal victory in becoming the greatest of all time after leading his country to a world cup victory.
