The people of Lewisham have the highest amount of qualifications across south east London, new data shows. 

Data published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) has found that 49.8 per cent of people in Lewisham have qualifications at Level 4 or above.

The Bexley borough has the lowest qualifications out of south east London, with 31.6 per cent. 

Below is a list of the proportion of residents in south east London aged 16 and over with qualifications at Level 4 or above at the 2021 census.

Level 4 or above covers a Higher National Certificate, Higher National Diploma, Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate qualifications.

The list is ranked by percentage, starting with the highest.

Bexley: 31.6 per cent

Bromley: 42.8 per cent

Dartford: 32.4 per cent

Greenwich: 45.7  per cent

Lewisham: 49.8 per cent

Census deputy director Jon Wroth-Smith said the data shows London came out on top with the highest proportion of people with a level 4 or above qualification – nearly half the capital’s residents hold a higher-level certificate or degree.

Mr Wroth-Smith added: “The region with the lowest proportion of people with Level 4 or above qualifications was the North East, with the East Midlands at a similar level, while the region with the highest proportion of people with no qualifications was the West Midlands, around one in five adults."

Wandsworth had the most people with the highest qualifications outside of the City of London – 62.6 per cent.

It was followed by Richmond (60.4 per cent), Kensington and Chelsea (59.5 per cent), Westminster (57.7 per cent), and Hammersmith (57.6 per cent).
