We are living in a rapid, ever-growing, and ever-changing world full of contradiction, colour, and contrast; I believe that the youth of today is the difference of tomorrow.

The recent generations, Generation Z and Alpha, have gained an infamous reputation of being somewhat untraditional in their attitudes and ambitions for the future of society. In order to have progression of our livelihoods, we must strive for change and adapt our minds to rebuild our broken home. The older generations have built the societal foundations with the stone of resolute action, however now, the new generations will sustain these foundations, as well as build upon them by contributing the colours of freedom and acceptance. Although we sometimes forget, we are all intertwined within each other, connected by our vast differences, and it is this collective coexistence that shapes our humanity.

I believe that the future of society will be one of isolation as people don’t depend on each other anymore because independence is a concept of growing significance and importance. To add, because of the greater magnitude of use of technology today, I think that the future will be more technologically advanced than now.

Furthermore, I had the privilege to ask a well-travelled, knowledgeable businesswoman her thoughts about society:

Do you think new generations could build a better future?

Yes, as they are more open-minded, outgoing, and independent and they are able to stand on their own two feet without depending on others to act for them. In the future, I assume that people will make their own jobs, instead of finding them.

What do you think the year 2050 will be like?

In my opinion, the world is too unpredictable to answer that question. Every day, there is something new and different to worry about. Yesterday was covid. Today is inflation. And only God knows what the problems of the future will be!

Do you think that it is better to dictate a society that is “black and white”: decisive and resolute or do you think it is better to live in one that strives for people to be whoever they want to be?

Of course, inclusivity, rights and freedom are very key aspects of life (in regard to it being good) as they allow people to live in a way they want to without pressures of fitting in a certain category or expectation. Nevertheless, freedom in an excessive abundance can become a burn of unsatisfaction and uncertainty. On the contrary, in a world where you can be either ‘this’ or ‘that,’ there is an ability to progress and enables there to be clarity of thought in society.

Both divergent societal constructs have their flaws and strengths but, without the sacrifice and determination of the older generation, as well as the perseverance and open-mindedness of the newer generations, this world would not be our home.

We must live as allies, not enemies, because underneath our differing appearances, we are all one thing: human.
