Stop the Clock Day: a day of school without the school! It is a day in Tiffin School where students are taken off timetable for a day and, instead of having lessons, they go on trips. This year, it took place on Thursday 24th November. Years 7-11 are taken on trips by the school to spark their interest in different ideas and topics while years 12 and 13 are encouraged to organise activities by themselves to ensure that the day is used wisely and is coordinated according to the subjects that they take for A level or their ideal future career.

As many people in sixth form know, future education and careers are recurrent themes in assemblies, PSHE/21st Century Life lessons and school life in general. Stop the Clock day is a way in which Tiffin School enlightens students about their future options so that they can make informed decisions concerning their future. Nouman Sami, a year 12 student explained, “stop the clock day, to me, was more of a day to explore what I found interesting and to get a feel for what life would be like after sixth form. I personally think that the idea of having such a day is necessary to get us thinking about what we want to do in the future, in a relaxed and fun way”.

As Tiffin pervaded art, science, history museums all over London, Lesley Buahin, another year 12 in the Tiffin sixth form, “went to a lecture at Imperial about heart retrieval. They went through the processes and showed real videos of beating hearts out of the body supported by technology. At the end there was a brief overview about new technology that could decrease the time between a heart being taken from a donor and being implanted into a patient. I found it very useful because I am interested in cardiology”.

Evidently, this day off school was incredibly beneficial and allowed students to widen their horizons in terms of the subjects they are passionate about.
