Keats Community Library is hosting a seasonal treat with stage and screen actor Simon Callow playing author Rudyard Kipling.

The Highgate actor will perform extracts from Kipling's many works which range from The Jungle Book, Just So Stories and Kim, to poems If and Mandalay.

Hampstead actor Lee Montague has devised and written the show and will contribute the biographical background to Kipling's life.

Born in British India in 1865, he was hugely feted in his lifetime and won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1907. He was personally devastated by the death of son Jack in World War I, and died in 1936. But his reputation has been posthumously recalibrated with critics questioning his depiction of the British Empire.

Rudyard Kipling His Life and Times is at 7.30pm on December 15. Tickets £10. All proceeds go to the volunteer-run library in Keats Grove, Hampstead. https://www.wegottickets.com/event/564024
