The remainder of this article will contain spoilers from the finale.

Despite there being mixed reactions to the final episode, all fans can agree that it was a wonderful surprise to see Rick (Andrew Lincoln ) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) Grimes make a return to the show after leaving in seasons nine and ten. Their short but impactful appearance perfectly set up their spin-off show slated to air in late 2023.

Fortunately, that is not the only spin-off confirmed for next year, there is also The Walking Dead: Dead City with Maggie and Negan-Two contrasting characters who seem to constantly clash, which should make for an interesting dynamic. The first teaser trailer was released only six days ago revealing the setting to be Manhattan. Finally, we can't forget fan favourite Daryl Dixon whose spin-off is yet to be titled but is confirmed to be set in France which is by far the most intriguing setting so far with the majority of the walking dead universe located within the United States. Tragically this series was supposed to contain Carol Pelletier however the actress - Melissa McBride- was unable to relocate to Europe for filming.

While we can expect the introduction of many new characters, we had to watch many leave us during the finale such as Rosita Espinosa, a character who has been a part of the program since season four. Her death was by far the most impactful of the episode, illustrating how even the most capable characters are at risk.

Naturally, the series ended on a bittersweet note while undoubtedly leaving much to be desired.
