A woman has been taken to hospital after an incident on the A2 Bexleyheath bridge.

Officers were called to concerns for the welfare of a woman in Townley Road at 5.35pm yesterday (November 18).

An incident response officer and members of the hazardous area response team attended the scene. 

Road closures were put in place between the Black Prince interchange and the Danson interchange.

Motorists heading London bound were diverted off at the Black Prince interchange towards Bexley Village.

All vehicles going towards Kent were also diverted off at the Danson interchange.

All roads have since reopened following the incident.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said yesterday (November 18): “Police were called at 5.35pm on Friday, 18 November following concerns for the welfare of a female on a bridge on the A2 Bexleyheath.

“Road closures are currently in place between the Black Prince Interchange and the Danson Interchange as police remain in the area to bring the matter to a safe conclusion.

“Diversions are currently in place while emergency service respond:

“All vehicles heading London bound are being diverted off at the Black Prince Interchange towards Bexley Village/Bourne Road.

“All vehicles heading Kent bound are being diverted off at the Danson Interchange.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said today (November 19): 

“We were called at 5.38pm today (18 November) to reports of an incident on Townley Road, Bexleyheath.

“We’ve sent an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team (HART) to the scene.

“We assisted one person at the scene before they were taken to hospital.”
