When The Hummingbird Bakery opened in Notting Hill in 2004, it was credited with bringing cupcakes and the flavours of American home baking to the capital.

The business was founded by Tarek Malouf, who attended The American School in St John's Wood, but it changed hands last February and now has branches in South Kensington, Victoria and Spitalfields, with a fifth due to open in north west London's very own little America St John's Wood at the end of the month.

Decked out with gold and marbled worktops with flashes of the signature Hummingbird pink, the new 750 sqft bakery will sell signature celebration cakes, cupcakes, American pies, cheesecakes, brownies and cookies with exclusive St John's Wood editions including zoo-themed brownies, and a 'fab 4' gift box - a nod to the Beatles. Guests can also customise their desserts and celebration cakes or order the new Red Velvet soft serve ice cream at the personalisation station.

Branch manager Marie-Aline Joly said: "We are excited to continue our expansion with a move into the St Johns Wood neighbourhood. We have some exciting new products to wow our guests, along with some classic favourites. We will be bringing our famed personalisation and ice cream station to the high street and we can’t wait to welcome you."

The Hummingbird deliver to most London postcodes but for those outside their orbit they offer nationwide delivery of cupcake and brownie decorating kits ranging from £23-£27.

The box includes a handy palette knife to decorate with fudge or dulce de leche icing and top with maltesers. They are fabulously rich so cut them up small and eat over a couple of days.

Thanksgiving this year falls on Thursday (November 24), and unsurprisingly The Hummingbird Bakery has treats for the American holiday for delivery or collection. This Is Local London: A beautifully decorated pumpkin and chocolate chip cake for ThanksgivingA beautifully decorated pumpkin and chocolate chip cake for Thanksgiving (Image: Courtesy of The Hummingbird Bakery)
