With the rise of Covid-19 signinficantly impacting the education of GCSE and A-Level students, compensation in exams has been granted. Is this set to change in 2023?

Indeed, GCSE and A level exams in England will likely return to pre-pandemic arrangements in summer 2023 as the youth continue to recover from the pandemic. In line with the plans set out last September, Ofqual has confirmed a return to pre-pandemic grading in 2023.

Whilst Chief Regulator, Dr Jo Saxton has stated the following: "This summer was an important step back towards normality. Our plans for 2023 take us a step further, whilst also recognising the impact of Covid.", students across the UK fear what this will mean for them in terms of the grade inflation observed of previous years.

In the absence of pandemic arrangement such as advanced information, students should expect to see an overall drop in acheived grades.

Many young people reject this notion because it implies that they have not been as significantly affected by the pandemic, yet lockdown periods of home-learning took place during periods of crucial GCSE and A-Level education.

Whilst still being greatly affected by the pandemic, students sitting exams in 20203 will face higher grade boundaries which is seen as "unfair" by students up and down the country.
