A flooring company’s bid to turn its building into flats were slammed as “substandard” as its plans were blocked.

Applicant Brajeff Flooring, which owns the Mawney Road site, had intended to knock down its disused shop and replace it with housing.

Six homes were planned for the three-storey block, made up of one one-bed studio flat, as well as one three-bed, two two-bed, and two one-bed flats.

A previous application had been rejected by the council on grounds including a lack of family-sized units, which Brajeff Flooring said it had addressed.

However, in its refusal of the new application, Havering Council planning officers listed five reasons for the decision, which again included a lack of appropriate family-sized properties.

The plans were also accused of featuring “substandard residential accommodation detrimental to the amenity of the future occupiers”, due to limited communal area and light, among other concerns.

Brajeff Flooring was approached for comment.
