Joiners Arms

Location: 66 Lewisham High St, London SE13 5JH

Located in the centre of Lewisham and popular with the local community, this pub’s friendly atmosphere makes it an ideal place to watch the tense early games.

Reviewer Liam Nolan said: “Popular for football and horse racing. A good locals place.”

The pub also has a reputation for selling very affordable pints.

Michael A Donaghy said: “Best pub in Lewisham by far, great atmosphere amongst the locals when you sit at the bar.

“Perfect if you like sport as well, especially football, horse racing.

“Good range of lagers all under 4 quid as well which is rare in London nowadays.”

The Lewisham Tavern

Location: 1 Lee High Rd, London SE13 5LD

If you are looking to take the dog out and watch the football, this is best pub for you. The pub is pet-friendly and hosts live music events.

The pub has a licence to show BT Sport and Sky Sports, meaning visitors are never far away from the latest game analysis.

Free Wifi is also available so fans can keep track of the scores in other games on their phones.

The first World Cup game the Tavern will be showing is the tournament’s opener, Qatar versus Ecuador at 7pm on November 20.

England’s first game against Iran at 1pm on November 21 will also be broadcast live.

The pub is a convenient meeting place for those visiting from outside Lewisham, as it a three-minute walk from Lewisham DLR.

The pub is home to a huge beer garden, although this may not be so useful during this year’s winter World Cup.

There are TVs throughout the pub showing football, meaning there is plenty of space for friends and families to watch the drama unfold together.

The pub is best known for the Guinness served there.

Reviewer Patrick Cassells said: “Good atmosphere and large TVs to watch sport.”

This pub is another favourite among locals and offers a wide selection of beer on draught.

Children are allowed in the pub until 8pm and there are pool tables for visitors to use in the half time breaks.

Reviewer Ostapov Vadim said: “Great place to watch football.”

Another reviewer, Faye Dunstan, said the pub’s friendly atmosphere was a highlight.

She said: “Lovely pub…very inclusive and welcoming. Everyone talks to everyone and includes each other. Shows football, pool table, darts and a garden at the back.

“Very reasonably priced, too.”
