As November rolls around, so does the annual excitement for Croydon High's sixth form fashion show. The showstopper event takes place each year in support of different charities, chosen by the year 13s.

Sixth form is all about increasing responsibility; this event is excellent preparation for future leadership roles. Both Croydon High and Whitgift School students of sixth form partake. The show is fully planned by the upper sixth. Beforehand, a Whitgift-Croydon High netball match takes place as additional fundraising. There are also various musical acts throughout the night.

This year Croydon High is supporting two charities. The first is Great Ormond Street. They are an organisation that raises money to support the Great Ormond Street hospital. The donations go towards funding for refurbishments, family support, research and equipment. The other charity supported, Smart Works, was set up in 2013. It aims to build women's confidence through providing clothes. They believe clothes give women the power to become who they truly are, allowing them to prevail in their future. These chosen charities support causes that the sixth form view as incredibly important.

One student, Aila, was asked to choreograph the 2022 lower sixth dance. The dance is themed around Disney Channel’s ‘Teen Beach Movie’. Although challenging, she has thoroughly enjoyed the experience. She said: “the best part of the fashion show for me is everyone coming together to express themselves through the catwalks, comedy, singing and dance.” Aila believes the spectacle is a great experience for the audience, and for the students who create it.

Every year the students close the event overwhelmed with pride. Students, teachers and families all sit in awe and appreciate the hard work that has evidently been put in. The time for this year's fashion show is quickly approaching. The sixth form are constantly at work in preparation. Dances are being perfected and catwalks are being practised. The sixth form team are prepared to put on an unforgettable night to support the charities that mean so much to them. November 11/12th is undoubtedly about to bring us another incredible show.
