The world première of a symphony dedicated to a former member will be performed at Highgate Choral Society's autumn concert.
Musical director Ronald Corp will conduct the premiere of his Symphony No 3 at All Hallows' Church, Gospel Oak on Saturday. (November 12)
Scored for full orchestra, it is dedicated to the memory of Highgate resident Naomi Lobbenberg.
“Naomi was a long-time friend and enthusiastic member of the Society," said Corp.
"But the symphony is not a portrait of her, rather a response to her passing. The music is dark and expresses grief. Lockdown took some time to adjust to, but once I had started, this symphony came together quickly and I am excited to hear it played with a full orchestra.”
Soprano Eleanor Pennell-Briggs, Mezzo Emma Jungling, Tenor Henry Ross and Bass Sam Evans, and New London Orchestra also perform Mozart's Requiem and Vaughan Williams’ The Garden of Proserpine, a setting of the Pre-Raphaelite poem by Swinburne, to mark the 150th Anniversary of the former Belsize Park composer’s birth.
