Brent residents are being called on to help guide the future of the borough.

The council has launched a consultation on its draft Borough Plan 2023-2027.

A number of public events will be held in the run up to the end of the consultation on January 10.

The plan lays out priorities which include tackling inequality, easing the pressures of the rising cost of living, cracking down on antisocial behaviour, making the borough greener and more sustainable, and providing "genuinely affordable housing".

Cllr Muhammed Butt, leader of Brent Council, said: “This draft borough plan is informed by residents’ priorities, expressed through votes at the ballot box earlier this year and participation in the Residents Attitude Survey. It is a snapshot of what we want to achieve and the path we will take to get there together.

“In Brent, like every London borough, we face a constant balancing act between the many challenges and opportunities before us."

He said that over the last 10 years, Brent Council has needed to cut close to £200 million from its budgets.

"We have been agile, worked in new and modern ways and cut back our workforce, including senior management," said Cllr Butt.

"However, the same rising cost of living that has affected us all individually is also cutting the council’s spending power further.

“This has obvious effects on what we can deliver for you, but despite the challenges, Brent Council will always take tough decisions to ensure no one is left behind. We will continue to prioritise the most vulnerable in our community and make sure that essential services like waste collection, libraries, education, public health and care are protected.

“We have listened to and will continue to listen to local people to decide the best way for us to respond to any upcoming challenges together. Please have your say in this consultation to help us make sure we get this right.”

Brent Council’s cabinet approved the plan on October 17.
