Mahsa Amini passed away at age 22 on September 16th, in a Tehran hospital under suspicious circumstances. In the lead up to her death, she was detained by Iran's 'morality police' for wearing her hijab too loosely. Since the Iranian revolution in 1979, the way that women dress and wear their hair has come under scrutiny. After 43 years of this regime, the people of Iran, both women and men have started fighting for their rights. This revolt has been met with terrifying violence from the police.

In response to these events, protests have been erected all over the world to show support and solidarity for Iran's people, organised by Iranian-Canadian social activist Hamed Esmaellion. These have taken place in major cities all over the world such as Berlin, Tbilisi, Toronto, Reykjavik, Munich, Barcelona, Bordeaux, Amsterdam, London and many more. Every Saturday afternoon, a protest is held in Trafalgar Square, in front of the National Gallery and the turnout is always incredible.

Passionate protesters chant the touching motto 'Woman, Life, Freedom,' while dozens of pre-revolution Iranian flags can be seen on the horizon. Senior protesters give beautiful speeches that inspirethose around to take action. Everyone is feeling something different: fear, rage, sadness, guilt for their families. A young protester at the scene on October 15th claimed, ''There is no worse feeling than knowing your family is in danger and not being able to do anything about it.''

Every day, the Iranian people are proving to the world that change starts with people.
