A murder investigation has been launched after a woman in her 30s was found stabbed to death in a flat in Lewisham.

Police were called shortly after 3.30pm on Tuesday to Tanner’s Hill in Deptford along with the land and air ambulance, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 33-year-old man known to the victim has been arrested on suspicion of murder and her family have been told.

Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry, in charge of policing for the borough of Lewisham, said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the woman who has lost her life and we will continue to give them specialist support.

“I know that there will also be shock and concern within the community at this time.

“I want to reassure people that this was an isolated incident and that a man remains in police custody.

“There will continue to be an enhanced police presence in the area and anyone who has any concerns or information that could help the investigation should speak to officers.”
