Hundreds of "demons" took part in a Kensal Rise's annual trick-or-treat fundraiser, raising £5,410 for local children's charities and Great Ormond St Hospital.

Crowds of children and adults dressed-up to haunt spookily-decorated houses at Dundonald Road and Wrentham Avenue.

An estimated 800 children braved heavy rain with parents to collect over 100kg of sweets and other treats in return for donations to local children's charities The Avenues Youth Project and Salusbury World or to Great Ormond St Hospital (GOSH).

Rafe Cohen, five, of Wrentham Ave helped organise his family's haunted house and raised £221 with his bucket collection.

He said: "I wanted to help other children and dressing up with friends was a lot of scary fun."

Kensal Rise mum Rani Arduino said: "My daughter and I have been looking forward to this for months. The local houses always go to so much effort and the costumes and shows are always amazing.”

The fundraising evening has raised over £35,000 over the past eight years, with local businesses such as Queens Park Architectural Design (QPAD) and Winkworth Estate Agents agreeing to double donations made on the night.

Avenues Youth Project director Paddy Barnes said: "It's wonderful to see such strong support for our work supporting young lives in the local community."

Salusbury World trustee Giles Deards said: "We're really grateful to so many ghouls for visiting and ignoring the rain to make such a spooktacular night. The funds will help our urgent work to support refugee communities in the area."
