Delivery bikes that make a "terrible first impression" to visitors to Romford may be asked to park elsewhere.

Delivery drivers regularly park in the loading bay near the station, and Havering Council says police and Transport for London (TfL) are among those to have raised concerns.

Road safety concerns may mean moped riders are prevented from parking in South Street, Romford, and the council has now opened a consultation on relocating them to Havana Close.

Conservative ward councillor David Taylor said he welcomes the proposal to move the bikes.

“These bikes are a terrible first impression for anyone visiting Romford and a hazard to wheelchair and pushchair users. Our town must put pedestrians first.

“I'm pleased the council has listened to our feedback and I hope the proposed changes to ahead. We now need strong enforcement, to make sure the rules aren't flouted.”

A council spokesperson told the Recorder: “The recommended relocation of the moped parking area allows for riders to wait safely within a short distance of the nearby takeaway businesses whilst keeping the route for permitted traffic safe and passable.”

The consultation is due to run until November 18. View it online here: https://consultation.havering.gov.uk/highways/south-street-eastern-road-traffic-signals-proposal/
