A school in Barking has been praised by the education regulator after an inspection.

Ofsted visited Frobel Independent School, in Longbridge Road, in September and has now published a report outlining its findings.

The mixed school, which caters for 11-16 year-olds, opened last year and charges annual fees between £6,000 and £8,000.

Inspectors rated the school as 'good' overall.

They found pupils enjoy life at the school and "mix with each other happily".

"Staff care for the pupils and build trusting relationships with pupils and their families," they added.

The report said leaders have high expectations of pupils but that they respond well to this.

Inspectors described the school's curriculum as "broad and ambitious".

"Leaders have considered their choice of curriculum content well in most subjects. This enables pupils to build up their knowledge in increasing depth and complexity.

"In a few subjects, leaders need to develop the curriculum for younger pupils further."

Teachers were also hailed by Ofsted.

"Teachers have good subject knowledge and they explain new information clearly to pupils.

"They check pupils’ understanding of both new and prior learning. This allows teachers to identify gaps in pupils’ knowledge and adapt their teaching accordingly."

Inspectors also wrote that school leaders have established a "strong" safeguarding culture.

This includes giving staff regular training on issues such as radicalisation and online safety.

Leaders also show "great commitment" to pupils and their families, the report said.

"They build strong, caring relationships with them. This provides the foundations for pupils’ happiness and achievement at school.

"Leaders also care for their staff. They ensure that staff’s workload is manageable and support staff’s well-being. Staff value this."

To improve further, Ofsted said the school needed to give more consideration to its choice of curriculum content in some subjects and to offer activities at key stage three which help pupils to "embed and use knowledge fluently".

The school's executive headteacher, Wendy Bower, told the Post: "We are all absolutely delighted that Ofsted has judged our school to be good in all aspects.

"Our success is down to the hard work and commitment of our students and staff, who are working together to build a very special school within the Frobel Education Group."

She added that students were taken to Thorpe Park for a day of celebration to mark the Ofsted rating and the school's first anniversary.
