A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 60s died in Dagenham.

She was one of two women found with stab wounds at an address in Auriel Avenue at around 9.35pm yesterday (October 30).

The second woman - who police believe is in her 30s - was taken to hospital but her condition is not life-threatening.

Detectives have launched a murder investigation and have arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of murder and GBH. He remains in custody.

Police believe the parties involved "were known to each other".

Det Supt Richard Vandenbergh said he understood the incident would cause concern within the community.

"It appears this was an isolated incident confined to a single address," he added.

“Residents will have woken up this morning to find a large police presence in the area. I want to reassure people that this is standard practice when dealing with such a serious incident so specialist officers can gather evidence as quickly and securely as is possible.

“You will also see local officers in the area; if you have concerns or information that could help then please speak to them.”
