The Book of Mormon - Incredible or Inconsiderate?

I went to the Prince of Wales Theatre, London, on the 10th of September to experience the play for myself and whether it should be allowed in 2022, or if it is just a brilliant production.

What is The Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is a play published in 2011 in the genre of musical comedy. However, it's choice of comedic effect has split viewers on its morality in this modern age.

The play focuses on two Latter-day Saint missionaries who attempt to preach the word of God to a Ugandan village. They find that previous missionaries have never been able to convert anyone so see an improbable challenge ahead. The locals show no interest in religion as they face challenges such as a local warlord and personal medical issues.

The play has had overwhelming success and popularity with the public setting records for ticket sales, yet people question its morality with it undermining things such as religion, race, illness, poverty and AIDs. In 2022 where people are learning to be more considerate and understanding of other people is it wrong to have a production where this is undermined?

Watch or Avoid?

Although it raises these problems, the production on the Book of Mormon is a brilliant spectacle with pitch perfect singing and acting throughout the performance. It’s standing ovation from the entire crowd at the end sums up the joy it gave to many others wanting to go to the theatre. For many light hearted individuals the humour involved is very funny and caught the nerve of everyone around me, so for anyone wanting a brilliant trip out to the theatre and has a light hearted sense of humour, The Book of Mormon is an incredible production for you!
