An industrial shredder was damaged by a fire at a Thamesmead recycling centre yesterday.

Four fire engines and 25 firefighters tackled the blaze on Nathan Way at 2.09pm.

Fire crews from Plumstead, Erith and East Greenwich fire stations brought the fire under control by 4.32pm.

There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is now under investigation.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters were called to a fire at a recycling centre on Nathan Way in Thamesmead.

“Part of an internal industrial shredder was damaged by fire.

“There were no reports of any injuries.

“The Brigade was called at 1409 and the fire was under control by 1632.

“Fire crews from Plumstead, Erith and East Greenwich fire stations attended the scene.

“The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
