An elderly care ward at Lewisham hospital has been temporarily closed due to a Covid outbreak.

Several patients have tested positive and so the ward has been closed to new admissions.

Visiting has also been restricted to that ward to reduce the transmission risk.

A spokesperson for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust said the situation is under regular review.

They added that as Covid numbers rise nationally, mask wearing has been reintroduced to all clinical areas in its hospitals.

A spokesperson for the Trust said: “Due to several patients testing positive for Covid, we have temporarily closed one of our elderly care wards to new admissions.

"To reduce the transmission risk we have also restricted visiting to that ward, but the situation is under regular review.

"As Covid numbers are rising nationally, we have reintroduced mask wearing to all clinical areas in our hospitals.”
