It’s time to ditch the bikini and wrap up warm in your favourite plaid jumper - as we are now officially in the season of Autumn.

Autumn is all about being cosy and comfortable, and what better way to enjoy the tranquil peace of the season than endeavour on a serene walk in south east London.

We’ve gathered a bunch of fabulous autumnal walking routes for you to enjoy this weekend, with plenty of time to spot all the beautiful fall foliage along the way.

Or as we approach Halloween - the spookiest time of year - why not try these walking routes out in the crisp, quiet air – if you dare.

Below are our top six walking routes to explore this weekend in south east London

1. Bostall Woods

This walk explores Bostall Woods and Bostall Heath in Abbey Wood, Greenwich which is well known as the former haunt of highwaymen.

You can follow a selection of footpaths through the 160 hectare site which includes woodland and fantastic greenery.

Or, if you’re wanting a ghostlier route, keep your eyes peeled for a cave in the woods, named after the most famous highwayman of all, Dick Turpin.

2. Beckenham Place Park

Beckenham Place Park is the largest green space in Lewisham, covering 96 hectares of land.

The park is open 365 days a year and features a wide range of facilities, including a café, ball court, football pitches, tennis court, sensory garden, and lake.

Beckenham Place Mansion, which is located at the stunning park, has medieval origins, and is open daily to the public as an arts, cultural and community centre

3. Avery Hill Park

Avery Hill Park, one of Greenwich’s Green Flag award-winning sites, is notable for Greenwich University’s winter garden which contains tropical trees and plants from across the globe.

The Green Chain Walk runs through the park and has lots of space for autumnal strolls and seasonal picnics.

4. Greenwich Park

Greenwich Park is one of the most popular green spaces in the capital, with stunning views to some of London’s most iconic architecture and plenty of space to meet up with pals, it’s a great spot to visit this autumn.

AllTrails.com have listed five exciting walking routes to try out in Greenwich Park this autumn, ranging from 2.1km long to 9.5km long.

5. Lesnes Abbey

This historic route begins at Abbey Wood Railway Station and across the ruins of Lesnes Abbey.

There are free public toilets available in the park and will take roughly 40 minutes to complete.

6. Three Houses Walk: Hall Place, Red House, and Danson House

If you’re looking for a longer walk, this route from BexleyWalks takes roughly two hours and covers three historic houses in the ancient village of old Bexley.

The tour begins at Hall Place, proceeding to Red House and ending at Danson House – a perfect route as we approach spooky reasons.
