Before their rise to fame, many celebrities attended schools, colleges, and universities just like the rest of us. 

The University of Greenwich has produced its fair share of famous faces. 

Some of the best talents grew up at Greenwich, from leading sportspeople to award-winning musicians, and filmmakers.  

If you’re a first-year student going to the University of Greenwich, then maybe one day you’ll be joining this impressive list of famous faces.

And for former Greenwich students, then hopefully this brings back fond memories of your time there.

Here are five of the famous Greenwich graduates that have inspired thousands over the years:  

1. Jamie Adenuga also known as JME

Jamie, is a grime artist, co-owner, and CEO of the music label, Boy Better Know, along with his brother Joseph Adenuga, also known as Skepta. 

Jamie studied BA (Hons) in 3D Digital Design, graduating in 2008.  

Since then, he has released many music albums, but his most noticeable album called Integrity reached number 12 on the UK charts.

2. Dave Rowntree 

Dave is a musician who attended Greenwich in 1984, studying Computer Science.  

Since then, he has had six successive UK number one albums, four of which went Platinum.  

In recent years he has become a pilot, filmmaker, lawyer, composer, international DJ, and political activist. 

3. Roy Hodgson  

Until May 2021, Roy Hodgson was the manager of Crystal Palace Football Club.  

Before becoming one of the most recognisable faces in English football, Roy was a student at Avery Hill College, a predecessor of the University of Greenwich.  

He completed his Certificate in Education in 1972 and returned to the university in 2019 to receive an Honorary Doctorate. 

4. Uru Eke 

Uru is a Nigerian actress and film producer, who studied BSc (Hons) in Business Information Technology in 2006. She also founded the Chime for Art Foundation, which raises awareness of social problems in Africa. Uru starred in many films, including Forgive me Father, Ebony, Friends in Love, and Weekend Getaway. 

5. Emily George 

Emily is a BAFTA-shortlisted film maker, who studied BSc (Hons) in Film and Television Production in 2017.  

She blew the BAFTA judges away when they shortlisted her film The Whale Bowl last year. 

Her documentary tells the story of Lolita, an orca kept in the world’s smallest whale tank, and her sole 49-year confinement.

It has been screened to audiences at film festivals around the world and was shortlisted for both BAFTA and Grierson student awards.
