A fast-footed feline has made light work of travelling from Lancashire to London - possibly along some of the country's busiest motorways.

The nine-year-old cat, from Hapton, near Burnley, went missing from her home on April 14 and appears to have made a trip of more than 200 miles to Nether Street, West Finchley.

Silver, so called because of her distinctive silver tiger markings, was spotted two days later by a cat-owner who posted her picture on a classified website, gumtree.com.

Her owner, Angel Jones, 23, is convinced the pictured missing moggy is Silver.

She said: "We have been putting up posters around our area, trying to find her, but she seems to have ended up in London - we don't know how she managed it.

"To do it in just two days she must have hitch-hiked on a wagon or some vehicle.

The man who found her said she was well-fed and groomed, but he gave her some food before letting her out again."

Miss Jones, who has contacted the national pet register and vets in Finchley, said Silver is a much-loved family pet and is prepared to drive the four hours to collect her if she is found.

"She can be spotted because she was apparently meowing very loudly and has clear white patches on her back and under her belly.

"We can't just drive around aimlessly hoping to find her, but if someone can look after her we can come down and pick her up."

Tara Kauser, whose boyfriend Mo spotted Silver, put the advert on Gumtree.com and is placing up posters around Finchley to help track her down again.

"We have our own kitten and we want to find some way to help," she said.

"Hopefully people will look out and will recognise the cat from the posters and take her in."
