A security guard at the O2 Arena in Greenwich was punched in the face while intervening to try and stop a robbery.

The victims were at the arena and approached by two people asking about tickets.

Both groups went their separate ways, but the victims were followed by the suspects when leaving the O2.

They were then surrounded by the suspects who began pulling and pushing to try and take a bag from one of the victims.

The victim punched one of the attackers in an attempt to escape but was overpowered by the suspects.

Security at O2 ran over to intervene.

An O2 arena security guard intervened, and while being detained one of the suspects is alleged to have punched a security officer in the face.

The pair were arrested on suspicion of robbery, and one on suspicion of assault on an emergency worker.

Greenwich police tweeted: “#Arrested.

“2 Arrested for Robbery & Assault on an Emergency worker X 1 “Great work by the @TheO2 Security team in swiftly detaining the suspects.

“Victims attended the O2.

“Suspects approached victim and were asking about tickets “Both parties had gone their separate ways after.

“On leaving the O2 the victims were followed by the suspects and surrounded.

“Suspects began pulling and pushing the victim to try and take his bag from him.

“Victim punched the suspect trying to escape but was overpowered by the suspects.

“Security at the O2 intervened.

“Whilst being detained, a suspect punched one officer in the face, causing reddening to the jaw.”
