The rider of a moped is seriously injured and in a critical condition after a crash with a car in Walworth.

The moped crashed with a car at around 10.55pm on August 28 at the junction of Walworth Road and East Street.

The rider of the moped, who was a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment.

He is still there in a critical but stable condition.

His next of kin are aware.

A 26-year-old man, who is thought to be the driver of the car, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving.

He has been bailed to a date later in September pending further enquiries.

Police want to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who may have captured it on their dash cam or phone to contact 020 8285 1574.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a road traffic collision in Walworth that left a moped rider with serious injuries.

"The collision occurred at around 22:55hrs on Sunday, 28 August in Walworth Road at the junction with East Street, SE17.

"A car was in collision with a moped.

"The rider of the moped, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment; he remains there in a critical but stable condition.

"His next of kin are aware.

"A 26-year-old man, thought to be the driver of the car, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and drug driving.

"He has been bailed pending further enquiries to a date in late September.

"Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have captured the incident on their dash cam or mobile phone, to contact the witness appeal line on 020 8285 1574.
