Two men have been arrested in Lewisham after a victim was robbed of their phone and a police search uncovered a 20cm machete.

Whilst officers were on patrol on Lee High Road, the victim and their dad flagged down a police car and told the officers that the victim had been robbed.

As they were speaking to police, the victim saw the duo that allegedly robbed their phone walking down the street.

Police ran after the suspects.

One stopped and was arrested on suspicion of robbery.

The other fled from officers and after a chase, he was arrested.

As this second suspect was running, the dad of the victim saw him drop a mobile phone.

The dad picked this up and identified it as the one taken from the victim.

Police then searched the suspect who did not originally flee from officers and found a huge machete down his trousers.

Officers said the blade was more than 20cm long.

He was then arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

The suspect that fled admitted to officers that he had some cannabis spliffs stored in his pants and was further arrested on suspicion of possession of class B drugs.
