Just when you thought it was safe to go back to Chessington World of Adventures, a shipment of sharks has been delivered for the park's new sea life centre.

Sharks, stingrays, seahorses and other fish were brought from Dorset on Thursday, February 28, to fill the 250,000-litre (66,062-gallon) aquarium.

The delivery included blacktip reef sharks and nurse sharks.

And it was not just the sharks which caused a stir. A host of stingray species, from painted and spotted to undulated and cownose, were let loose into their new home.

Many of the smaller fish were brought in inside small bags, in a scene that resembled a hi-tech version of a fairground game.

Zoo manager Marc Boardman said: "We're very excited to have this fantastic new sea life centre at Chessington, and we can't wait to the see the centre buzzing with gleaming faces on March 15, when we open.

The fish have all been brought up from a holding centre in Weymouth on a three hour journey to Chessington.

"We have had five separate deliveries of fish via lorries, each containing anywhere between one and five 2,500 litre tanks - all of which need monitoring for water temperature and oxygen levels at the start, middle and end of each trip."

More is yet to come, with an octopus and more sharks due today before the Leatherhead Road centre's grand opening on March 15.
