A man from Catford has been charged with multiple offences that occurred in Welwyn Garden City.

A member of the public reported seeing somebody trying to break into cars on Tuesday, August 30, 2022.

Lyudmil Hristov, of Brownhill Road in Catford, was arrested in Digswell Road after the reports.

Operation Scorpion - a specialist unit of officers who tackle acquisitive crime such as drug dealing, burglaries, and robberies – attended the scene and made an arrest.

Hristov, 35, has been charged with two counts of Interfering with a motor vehicle, Burglary, and two counts of Attempted Burglary.

He was refused bail and has been remanded in custody until sentencing.

Detective Inspector Adam Bridges, from the Welwyn Hatfield Local Crime Unit, said: “I hope the news of this quick arrest and charge is reassuring to local residents.

“I would like to thank the member of the public for reporting their suspicions to police.

“If you spot suspicious behaviour never hesitate to call 999 so that we can get our resources to the area as quickly as possible.”

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police said: “A man who was arrested in Welwyn Garden City on Tuesday (30 August) has been charged with multiple offences.

“Lyudmil Hristov, aged 35, of Brownhill Road in Catford, was arrested in Digswell Road after a member of the public reported seeing somebody trying car door handles.

“Operation Scorpion - a specialist unit of officers who tackle acquisitive crime such as drug dealing, burglaries and robberies – immediately attended the scene and made an arrest.

“Hristov has been charged with the following five offences:

• Interfering with a motor vehicle x2 (in Blakemere Road)

• Burglary (in Digswell Road)

• Attempted burglary (in Walden Road)

• Attempted burglary (in Blakemere Road)

“He was refused bail and has been remanded in custody until sentencing.”
