A man has been arrested after discarding drugs and fleeing from officers when police asked him to stop the car.

Police were on patrol in Erith on Wednesday and were driving along Bexley Road at around 5.20pm when a Ford Focus caught their attention.

Officers signalled for the car to stop, and the driver did, however, the Ford made off as soon as police got out of their vehicle.

It turned into a side road and police pursued.

Officers saw the driver throw a dark holdall bag out of the vehicle before driving off again.

Police picked up the bag and carried on down the road to find that the Ford had been abandoned.

Officers found the suspect in a front garden of a nearby property.

He was detained for a search and officers found a large amount of cannabis and what was believed to have been cocaine inside the holdall bag.

The suspect was then arrested on suspicion of passion with intent to sell class A and class B drugs.

Police also found that the vehicle was not insured, and he only held a provisional licence.
